What are connectors and what are they used for
Connectors are essential components in almost every electronic circuit. They enable reliable and detachable electrical connections, whether for power supply, data transmission, or connecting sensors, actuators, and modules.
In the microcontroller field, pin headers, female headers, and pitch connectors are commonly used to connect boards and components in a modular way. Pogo pins are also used in test setups or as spring-loaded contact solutions. Depending on the requirements, variants with different pitches, numbers of pins, and mounting types are available, from THT to SMD.

Connectors for audio and video
In audio and video applications, specialized signal connectors are used. Jack plugs are widely used for analog audio connections, whether mono, stereo, or TRRS. They are suitable for headphone jacks, microphones, or small audio projects.
For video transmission, HDMI and VGA connectors are relevant. HDMI allows the transmission of high-resolution audio and video signals via a single cable, making it ideal for displays and media center projects. VGA is used in older systems but is still found in industrial environments.
RF connectors such as SMA or BNC also play an important role in high-frequency signal transmission, for example in antenna modules.
Connectors for power supply
For mains voltage and DC power supply, robust connectors are essential. DC plugs, also known as barrel plugs, are commonly used with power supplies for microcontroller boards and other low-voltage devices. GX connectors provide a secure connection for higher currents and are used in industrial applications.
Terminal blocks and connection terminals allow fixed wiring of cables, while flat connectors enable simple connections, for example for fans or motors. AC plugs are intended for connection to mains voltage and should always be selected in accordance with applicable safety standards.
Banana plugs are ideal for laboratory and test setups. They allow quick reconnection and clear polarity identification.
