Espressif ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1-N8R2, ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, 2MB PSRAM, 8MB Flash
Product number: ADA5310
Product information "Espressif ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1-N8R2, ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, 2MB PSRAM, 8MB Flash"
Please note: The S3 is similar to the ESP32-S2 - but also has a dual core and Bluetooth LE (not classic!) However, there is minimal support for this dev board. For example, at the time of writing there is no support for Arduino or CircuitPython - only for ESP IDF! Please buy it if you are developing with the S3 and don't mind it not working 100%.
Most of the module's I/O pins are split across the headers on either side of the board for ease of connection. Developers can either connect peripherals with jumper wires or mount the ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1 on a breadboard. We particularly like that there is a debug UART/USB port and a separate native USB port so you can upload, debug and transfer USB at the same time.
At the heart of the module is an ESP32-S3FN8, an Xtensa® 32-bit LX7 CPU running at up to 240 MHz. You can switch off the CPU and use the power-saving co-processor to constantly monitor the peripheral devices for changes or exceeding threshold values.
The ESP32-S3FN8 has a wide range of peripherals including SPI, LCD, camera interface, UART, I2C, I2S, remote control, pulse counter, LED PWM, USB Serial/Jtag, MCPWM, SDIO host, GDMA, TWAI® controller (compatible with ISO 11898-1, i.e. CAN specification 2.0), ADC, touch sensor, temperature sensor, timer and watchdogs as well as up to 45 GPIOs. It also has a full-speed USB 1.1 On-The-Go (OTG) interface to enable USB communication
There are three mutually exclusive ways to power the board:
- USB-to-UART port and ESP32-S3 USB port (either one or both), standard power supply (recommended)
- 5V and G (GND) pins
- 3v3 and G (GND) pins
- ESP32-S3-WROOM-1: ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 is a powerful, generic Wi-Fi + Bluetooth LE MCU module that has a variety of peripherals. It provides acceleration for neural networks and signal processing tasks. ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 comes with a PCB antenna.
- 5V to 3.3V LDO: Power regulator that converts a 5V supply to a 3.3V output.
- Pin Headers: All available GPIO pins (except the SPI bus for the flash) are distributed on the pin headers on the PCB to facilitate connection and programming. See header block for details.
- USB-to-UART connector: A micro USB connector is used to power the board, to flash applications to the chip and to communicate with the chip via the integrated USB-to-UART bridge.
- Native ESP32-S3 USB port: ESP32-S3 full-speed USB OTG interface, compliant with the USB 1.1 specification. The interface is used to power the board, to flash applications to the chip, to communicate with the chip via USB 1.1 protocols and for JTAG debugging.
- Boot button: Download button. If you press and hold Boot and then press Reset, the firmware download mode is started, allowing you to download the firmware via the serial interface.
- Reset button
- USB to UART bridge: A single USB to UART bridge chip enables transfer rates of up to 3 Mbps.
- RGB LED: Addressable RGB LED, controlled via GPIO48.
- 3.3V Power On LED: Lights up when the USB power supply is connected to the board.
