The Grove - Step Counter module is based on the BMA456, a very small, three-axis, low-g, high-performance acceleration sensor. The sensor has a high sensitivity in all selectable acceleration ranges and supports reliable step counting through the use of a special algorithm from Bosch. The integrated Grove interface allows simple plug-and-play use in various applications. Due to its high performance characteristics, the module can capture and process precise metadata. It is suitable for use in applications with limited installation space and offers functions such as display on/off switching, profile switching or E-compass tilt compensation. Communication takes place via an I2C interface, whereby two addresses (0x19 standard, 0x18 optional) can be selected. The module works with an operating voltage of 3.3 V or 5 V.
The sensor is used for reliable motion detection and step counting. It can be used in fitness applications, activity tracking, wearable devices or user interfaces without physical buttons. Its compact design also makes it suitable for devices with height restrictions. The module enables automatic display control and efficient power management, for example for use in wearables. This product records acceleration data in three spatial axes. It detects the user's steps and movements, synchronises data with other sensors and can recognise and evaluate movement patterns in real time. The high sensitivity levels at different measuring ranges enable precise differentiation between different types and intensities of movement. The measurement data can be integrated into control systems or analysis software for further analyses.
