Power Supplies for Microcontrollers and Electronics
Power supplies are essential components of any electronic circuit. They convert the mains voltage from a wall outlet into a defined direct current voltage (DC) required by microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, and other electronic modules. Typical output voltages are 5V, 9V, 12V, or 24V.
In practice, various designs are used: plug-in power adapters with barrel connectors, desktop power supplies, USB power supplies, power supply modules, DIN rail power supplies, or specialized solutions for automotive applications, cameras, or LED projects. The selection depends on voltage, current (amps), power (watts), and connection type.
Whether for an Arduino project, a Raspberry Pi server, an ESP32 IoT device, or an LED installation: a stable power supply is crucial for reliable operation and protects sensitive electronics from undervoltage or overvoltage.
USB Power Supplies for 5V Applications
USB power supplies generally provide 5V DC voltage and are ideal for Raspberry Pi, ESP32, Arduino with USB connection, as well as smartphones, tablets, and other USB devices.
Important criteria include the connector type (USB A, USB C, or Micro USB) as well as the maximum output power in watts. While simple applications can operate with 5V and 1A, more powerful boards such as the Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 require power supplies with 3A or more.

DIN rail power supplies are often used in control cabinets, while channel or built-in power supplies are suitable for permanent installations in enclosures or control systems. For Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or other microcontrollers, a clean, stabilized DC voltage is essential.
Special Power Supplies for Automotive, Cameras, Induction, and LED
In addition to classic plug-in power supplies, there are automotive power supplies for 12V cigarette lighters, camera power supplies with specific barrel connectors, as well as induction chargers for wireless charging of compatible devices.
For lighting projects, special LED power supplies are used that provide constant voltage or constant current. DC adapter cables and different barrel connector sizes also play an important role in ensuring safe power delivery.
Depending on the application, protection mechanisms such as short-circuit protection, overcurrent protection, and overvoltage protection should be considered to permanently safeguard connected electronics.
