The Pololu DRV8434 stepper motor driver is a versatile module for controlling bipolar stepper motors. The module supports microstepping up to 1/256 step and works with an operating voltage of 4.5 V to 48 V. It delivers up to 1.2 A continuously per phase without additional cooling and can reach peak currents of 2 A for short periods. It is controlled via a simple step and direction interface and is compatible with 1.8 V, 3.3 V and 5 V systems.
The driver has an integrated voltage regulator that enables easy integration into various projects. Protection mechanisms such as overtemperature shutdown, overcurrent protection and undervoltage protection are also integrated. Two intelligent current control modes ensure smooth movement of the motors without the need for manual adjustment.
The module is based on the Texas Instruments DRV8434 stepper motor driver and is designed as a carrier module. The header is included in the scope of delivery and must be soldered on yourself. The module is compatible with the widely used A4988 driver module and can be used as a replacement in many applications. The integrated spread spectrum clocking reduces electromagnetic interference, while the 4-layer, 2 ounce copper PCB ensures improved heat dissipation.
