This adorable little board will come in handy when you need a small amount of 5V power. It's the size of a linear regulator, but it's actually a mini booster! You can input 3V on one side and tap 5V at up to 100mA on the other. Perfect for use in battery powered projects with 2 or 3 alkaline or a single lithium battery. For large projects you can use one of our PowerBoost boards which can give you 500mA-2A of current.

This booster uses a charge pump topology which makes it very compact and cost effective. But it is not as efficient as an induction-based boost converter. Charge pumps always double the input voltage and then regulate down. So yes, not as efficient. So it's ideal if you don't want to count on coulombs - or if your current draw isn't particularly high.

You get a fully assembled breakout with an AP3602A and components, plus a small piece of header. Apply 3-5VDC to the IN and ground pins. Then you have 5V on the OUT pin. The enable pin can be pulled low to disable the output.
